De vergrijzing van de Nederlandse bevolking zal de komende decennia van grote invloed zijn op onze economie. Het aandeel ouderen in de bevolking zal drastisch toenemen. De arbeidsmarktparticipatie zal daardoor verminderen, terwijl het beroep op collectieve voorzieningen zoals AOW en gezondheidszorg zal toenemen.

When the number of workers declines, who is going to pay for the taxes needed to finance government expenditures for the old? Is the burden of ageing going to be shifted to future generations, and will they be able and willing to pay for these taxes? These questions reflect the concern about ageing, and are central in this study on the consequences of ageing in the Netherlands.
