Who we are

CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis is an independent research institute that provides policy relevant economic analyses and projections. We conduct research on the Dutch economy in particular, and on socio-economic policy, in general. We translate scientific insights into everyday policy practice, providing a rational and factual basis for both policymakers and the public at large.

We believe that economic insight is likely to lead to good policies, which may contribute to more prosperity for the country — see our position paper 'Economisch inzicht voor beter beleid' (economic insights for a better policy [in Dutch]).

History

CPB was founded in September 1945, just after the end of World War II. The founders believed that the Netherlands needed an assessment agency that would provide the Dutch Government with the scientific knowledge and insights needed to pursue an active economic policy.  More about CPB’s history.
