Economic interwovenness with China through trade: two sides of the same coin
Increased trade with China brings risks, but also benefits. This is apparent from a study by CPB and Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on the economic interdependence of the Netherlands and the European Union with China. The Netherlands and Europe benefit from trade with China, and vice versa. However, this trade also creates mutual economic dependence. Reducing that dependency is a geopolitical discussion, in which the geopolitical risks and the costs of reducing dependency must be weighed against each other.
