CPB World Trade Monitor January 2025

World Merchandise trade increased 1.1% in January 2025 compared to the previous month, following an increase of 0.8% in December. This is evident from the monthly CPB World Trade Monitor. On the import side especially the United States shows a significant increase (+12.1%). Also Japan has an increase (+6.3%), while other advanced Asia shows a decrease (-6.2%). On the export side no substantial increases are found. Japan shows a decrease of 5.5%.

Developments in global international trade and industrial production January 2025:

  • World trade volume increased 1.1% month-on-month (growth was 0.8% in December, initial estimate 1.1%).
  • World trade momentum was 1.0% (non-annualised; 0.7% in December, unchanged from initial estimate).
  • World industrial production decreased 0.1% month-on-month (having increased 0.8% in December, unchanged from initial estimate).
  • World industrial production momentum was 0.9% (non-annualised; 0.9% in December, initial estimate 1.0%).

The next release of the CPB World Trade Monitor is scheduled for 25 April 2025, 15:00 hours.

The monthly CPB World Trade Monitor is an instrument with which CPB monitors the development of world trade and is published on behalf of the European Commission. It takes two months before the figures are available. The next CPB World Trade Monitor for the reporting month of February 2025 will be published on April25th 2025.
