Pieter Hasekamp chair European Fiscal Board

The European Commission has appointed Pieter Hasekamp, director of the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, as chair of the European Fiscal Board (EFB), taking effect immediately. The EFB is an independent advisory board that advises the European Union on budgetary policy and the application of European budgetary standards.

The EFB consists of five members from different member states, all experts in the field of budgetary policy, public finance and macroeconomics. The other members are Eckhard Janeba, George Kopits, Benedicta Marzinotto and Lucia Rodríguez Muñoz. The European Parliament followed the Council in approving the appointments following a hearing in the ECON Committee. For Pieter Hasekamp, the membership of the EFB is an ancillary position alongside his job as director of the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis. The appointment is for a period of three years.

Pieter Hasekamp: “I look forward to working with the other members of the EFB to contribute to stable fiscal policy and sustainable public finances in Europe. And this at a time when geopolitical tensions are providing new impulses for – and renewed debates on – further European cooperation in many areas.
