Workshop 'Micro-evidence on labour market implications of globalization and agglomeration'
The aim of the workshop, organized March 13 by The department of Spatial Economics of VU University and CPB, is to present and discuss recent insights related to the labour market effects of globalization and agglomeration, and to share the knowledge that has been accumulated on these topics among scientists, statisticians, and policymakers.
The ongoing trends of globalization and agglomeration have sizable impacts on the Dutch economy. While the economic literature generally emphasizes the benefits of these processes for the average citizen, macro-level trends hide substantial heterogeneity in the effects for different types of workers and firms. Increased availability of micro-data has made it increasingly possible to address this heterogeneity and assess its importance with profound implications for economic policy.
The workshop as part of a research programme on the implications of globalization and agglomeration for the Netherlands, carried out in cooperation with Platform31 and Statistics Netherlands (CBS). This research programme was kindly sponsored by the Dutch Ministries of Economic Affairs, Finance, and Social Affairs and Employment. The aim of the workshop is to present and discuss recent insights related to the labour market effects of globalization and agglomeration, and to share the knowledge that has been accumulated on these topics among scientists, statisticians, and policymakers.
Confirmed keynote speakers are Uwe Blien, Paul Cheshire and Anna Salomons. In addition to these three keynote presentations, there will be parallel sessions with contributed papers.
The workshop takes place on March 13 in the SER building in The Hague. The morning sessions (10.00–12.15 hrs.) will mainly focus on globalization, while the afternoon sessions (13.30–17.00 hrs.) will elaborate on themes that are more related to agglomeration. Lunch will be provided from 12.15–13.30 hrs. and we will close with drinks. The programma and location can be found in the downloadable PDF-file above.
