Abstract subject:
The European Council meeting of 18 December 2015 has called for the rapid advancement of work on the European Banking Union “to enhance financial stability in the euro area.” Policy discussions are ongoing under the Dutch Presidency, including on the European Commission’s proposal for a European Deposit Insurance Schemes (EDIS), addressing the current high home bias in banks’ sovereign exposures, and levelling the playing field for banks across the euro area. The presentation will take stock on this policy agenda of “strengthening the banking union” and explore options for further reform.
